About this Mod
Dreamshift
Not all worlds will wait to be found.
Dreamshift is an atmospheric horror mod for Minecraft that introduces Dreamspaces, being worlds that resememble dreamcore, liminal spaces, and more.
This mod does not feature one monster haunting you every night.
It provides the experience of encountering something you should not have seen, learning new rules, and trying to find your way back home.
What is Dreamshift?
Throughout your world, you may find some unnatural, fragile openings in walls called slippages.
Dreamspaces are individual dimensions, each with its own atmosphere, weather, time, events, sounds, buildings, and structure. They can be quiet, broken, abandoned, or simply waiting for you.
Dreamspaces are not regular dimensions in Minecraft. They are temporary experiences, fragments, memories, places, and mistakes.
Features
✦ Slips & Slippages
Slips are the more-known backrooms styled noclip. These may occur anywhere.
Slippages are unstable openings that can also appear anywhere in the world.
Using them can take you to a Dreamspace. These are surreal, atmospheric, and eerie worlds meant for exploration.
✦ Fractured Tools
Fractured tools appear in your world after heavy usage on crafting tables, furnaces, blast furnaces, and smokers. These are an alternative way to travel to dreamspaces.
Horror Style
Dreamshift does not rely on cheap jump scares and monster spawns.
The horror of the mod comes from:
- displacement
- exploring locations that should not exist
- environmental storytelling
- scripted entities
- isolation
- unique rules
- unsafe exits
- worlds that feel temporary, abandoned, or self-aware
Compatibility note:
On macOS devices, especially those with Apple Silicon, Immersive Portals may show incorrect rendering when used with Iris shader packs. Older GPU's may experience this as well, enabling "Legacy Mode" in the config will fix this
Notes
Dreamshift is not fully developed yet. While some Dreamspaces are scripted, others are still non-scripted atmospheric worlds and may have events added later.
The behavior of worlds, slippages, Dreamspace resetting, and scripted encounters is actively being developed.
Dreamshift is an original story told from the perspective of BonzeP. This mod wasn't originally planned, but his community is what brought it to life. Thank you all <3

Dreamshift server crashes on startup – what to do?
Most common cause: wrong fabric version or insufficient RAM. Check the server log (latest.log) for "OutOfMemoryError" or "Mixin" errors. With Mado Hosting: ensure at least 3 GB RAM is allocated and the loader matches the mod version (1.20.1). You can switch loaders with one click in the panel.
Is Dreamshift compatible with fabric and forge?
Dreamshift officially supports fabric, forge for Minecraft 1.20.1. Note: Forge and Fabric mods are NOT cross-compatible – pick one loader and stick with it. The Mado dashboard automatically detects incompatible loader combinations.
Server lagging with Dreamshift – how to optimize performance?
Recommended RAM: 4 GB (per 8 players). Use /spark profiler to check if Dreamshift consumes the most tick time. Common fixes: reduce server view-distance to 8-10, install "performant" or "starlight" as supplementary mods on Forge. With Mado Hosting, your server runs on NVMe SSDs with dedicated CPU cores for minimal latency.
