About this Mod

Dynamic Clouds

Vanilla's flat, boring clouds, reimagined into Minecraft-fitting voxels.

Dynamic Clouds replaces Minecraft's paper-thin cloud plane with real, volumetric clouds built from voxels — fluffy cumulus, towering storm fronts, and high wispy cirrus that drift across the sky. They're made of voxels, so they belong in your world… they just happen to be huge and alive.

The sky stops being a static backdrop. A clear afternoon slowly clouds over, the wind picks up as a storm rolls in, lightning flickers through a churning grey ceiling overhead, and if you climb above it all, you break out into calm sunshine.

☁️ Features

  • Volumetric clouds — layered cloud types stacked into real-looking skies, never a flat sheet.
  • Living weather — the sky moves through its own moods: clear, cloudy, rainy, dramatic storms, and the rare, ferocious Orcan — a hurricane-grade tempest.
  • Wind — clouds drift on the breeze, and it strengthens and howls as the weather turns.
  • Cloud shadows — clouds cast soft shadows on the ground on brighter days.
  • Terrain-aware clouds — they flow around and over mountains instead of slicing through them.
  • Storm atmosphere — darkness and fog gather beneath storm clouds, lightning lights up the underside, and thunder rumbles. Fly above the deck and it's clear and sunny up there.
  • Endless sky — clouds reach all the way to the horizon.

⚙️ Settings

Everything is adjustable in-game through Mod Menu:

General

  • Enable Dynamic Clouds — master switch; off returns you to vanilla clouds.
  • Cloud distance — how far the clouds render out.
  • Smooth transitions — gently fade between weather instead of snapping.

Cloud Shadows

  • Cloud shadows — toggle shadows on the ground.
  • Shadow strength — how dark they fall.

Weather

  • Enable weather — let the mod run its own sky moods (turn off for clouds without the drama).
  • Above clouds is clear — stay in sunshine when you fly over a storm.
  • Weather fog — the gloom and haze under bad weather, with adjustable density.

Wind

  • Wind sounds — the howl that rises during storms.
  • Flight turbulence (single-player) — let storms buffet your elytra around, with adjustable strength — or switch it off for steady flight.

Terrain

  • Terrain interaction — let clouds bend around hills and mountains.
  • Max push — how far terrain can nudge a cloud aside.

📦 Dependencies

  • Fabric Loader and Fabric APIrequired.
  • Mod Menu + YetAnotherConfigLib (YACL) — for the in-game settings screen.

Dynamic Clouds is a client-side mod: install it on your client and it works on any server, vanilla or modded — nothing to install server-side.

✅ Compatibility

  • Plays nicely with Distant Horizons and Voxy — the clouds stretch out over your distant terrain.
  • Needs a reasonably modern graphics card (anything from roughly the last decade). Not currently supported on macOS as GL 4.6 is needed

Frequently Asked Questions

Dynamic Clouds server crashes on startup – what to do?

Most common cause: wrong fabric version or insufficient RAM. Check the server log (latest.log) for "OutOfMemoryError" or "Mixin" errors. With Mado Hosting: ensure at least 4 GB RAM is allocated and the loader matches the mod version (26.2). You can switch loaders with one click in the panel.

Dynamic Clouds officially supports fabric for Minecraft 26.2, 1.21.11. The Mado dashboard automatically detects incompatible loader combinations.

Server lagging with Dynamic Clouds – how to optimize performance?

Recommended RAM: 6 GB (per 5 players). Use /spark profiler to check if Dynamic Clouds consumes the most tick time. Common fixes: reduce server view-distance to 8-10, install "performant" or "starlight" as supplementary mods on Forge.
