About this Mod

This is Audiobook, the mod that reads books out loud so you can continue to go about your adventures while listening to them. It makes use of Minecraft's Narrator feature to do this.
To use Audiobook, hold a book in your hand and press H (configurable). To stop an audiobook that is playing, press J (also configurable). You can also use these keys while the book is open, so it can be used with books that are on Lecterns. You do not have to continue holding the book once it's playing.

This mod is client side only, so you can use it on servers that don't have the mod installed.

This mod requires Fabric API (Fabric/Quilt only), and goes well with Textbook.

How to Install Audiobook on Your Server

Order Server

Order a Minecraft Java server with at least 3 GB RAM (4 GB recommended).

Set fabric Loader

In the panel under "Egg", select the fabric loader and matching Minecraft version (1.21.5).

Install Mod

Open the mod browser in the dashboard and search for "Audiobook". Click "Install" – done! Alternatively, upload the .jar via SFTP to the /mods folder.

Audiobook server crashes on startup – what to do?

Most common cause: wrong fabric version or insufficient RAM. Check the server log (latest.log) for "OutOfMemoryError" or "Mixin" errors. With Mado Hosting: ensure at least 3 GB RAM is allocated and the loader matches the mod version (1.21.5). You can switch loaders with one click in the panel.

Is Audiobook compatible with fabric and forge and quilt?

Audiobook officially supports fabric, forge, quilt for Minecraft 1.21.5, 1.21.4, 1.21.3. Note: Forge and Fabric mods are NOT cross-compatible – pick one loader and stick with it. The Mado dashboard automatically detects incompatible loader combinations.

Server lagging with Audiobook – how to optimize performance?

Recommended RAM: 4 GB (per 8 players). Use /spark profiler to check if Audiobook consumes the most tick time. Common fixes: reduce server view-distance to 8-10, install "performant" or "starlight" as supplementary mods on Forge.
