Welcome to Better Fishtanks 🐠, the ultimate mod for aquatic enthusiasts! This mod provides a complete framework to create beautiful, dynamic, and functional aquariums for all your fish, whether they are from vanilla Minecraft or your favorite mods.

Please Note: This mod focuses on the tanks and systems. It does not add new fish on its own. It is designed to be the perfect companion for other mods that do!

• Dynamic Fishtanks: Our fishtanks are more than just glass blocks. They are living ecosystems where you can house a wide variety of fish.
• Feeding System: Keep your fish happy and healthy by feeding them. Use one of the many new food types.
• Aquarist Table: The central hub for all your fish-keeping needs. Craft and manage your fishtanks and supplies.

👜 Fish Management

• Fish Bags: Safely transport your fish (vanilla or modded) from one location to another with our special fish bags.
• Random Fish Bags: Feeling lucky? Try a random fish bag to get a surprise vanilla fish!

🌿 Decorations and More

• Extensive Decorations: Customize your fishtanks with a massive collection of decorations. From tiny stones and branches to shipwreck remnants and tower fragments, you can create the perfect environment for your fish.
• New Food Sources: Farm your own fish food with the addition of mini-shrimp, which can be caught, cooked, and eaten.
• Pellet Mix: Craft your own special pellet mix for your fish.

How to Add Fish to Your Fishtank

The Fish Bag is your essential tool for populating your custom fishtanks! It allows you to safely catch and transport fish, making the process of creating your aquatic displays simple and intuitive.

Catching a Fish: Equip your Fish Bag and simply right-click on any catchable fish in the world. The fish will be safely stored inside the bag, and the bag's texture will update to indicate it's no longer empty.

Placing in a Fishtank: With a filled Fish Bag in hand, right-click on your Fishtank block. The fish will be released into the tank, and your Fish Bag will become empty, ready to catch another aquatic friend.
This seamless interaction ensures you can easily manage and customize the inhabitants of your Better Fishtanks!

✨Gameplay Details✨

🥫 Food Containers

Container Store food in a more compressed way so you don't have to feed your fish manually every Day!

• Each container is designed for a specific food type: Flakes, Dried Kelp, Mini-Shrimp, and Pellets.

🥚 Fish Eggs

The Fishtanks passively produce Fish Eggs!

• They come in six rarity tiers: Common, Uncommon, Rare, Epic, Exotic, and Legendary.
• These Eggs can be cracked open into useful loot within the Aquarist's Table.

🧑‍🌾 The Aquarist Villager

Find a new Aquarist villager! They will trade you for various fish-keeping supplies, including rare fish eggs and exclusive decorations. Build an Aquarist Table near an unemployed villager to assign them this profession or find them in Plains Villages.

⚙️ Tech Mod Support (Create, etc.)

We love automation! Better Fishtanks is designed to be compatible with your favorite tech mods.

• The Fish Tank and Aquarist Table inventories are fully accessible. Use pipes or item transfer systems from mods like Create to automatically insert or extract items.
• You can also use fluid pipes to fill your tanks with water, making large-scale aquarium management a breeze!

📖 JEI Integration

Curious about a recipe? Better Fishtanks has full support for Just Enough Items (JEI). Browse all the items, blocks, and recipes this mod has to offer with ease!

🔥 Nether Depths Upgrade & Lava Fishtanks Now supported!

• Fishtanks can now be filled with lava to support mods like Nether Depths Upgrade!
• The seagrass and Kelp from Nether Depths Upgrade can now be Used as Decor items when Nether Depths Upgrade is installed

⚙️ Config Options

• Detailed Feeding System: Toggle Require Food to determine if fish need to be fed to survive. When enabled, you must use Food Containers to keep your fish alive, or you can disable it for a purely aesthetic, low-maintenance aquarium.
• Custom UI Units: Choose how water levels are displayed in your Tank UI, with support for Percent, Buckets, or Millibuckets (mB) for better compatibility with tech mods.
• Advanced Captures: Enable the Fish Bag to capture specialized mobs like Drowned, Guardians, or Whales (Warning: Large fish may eat smaller tank mates!).
• Rendering Modes: Toggle between Vanilla Waterlogging or the new EXPERIMENTAL Entity Rendering system to change how water looks inside your custom tanks.

❓ FAQ ❓

Is this mod compatible with other fish mods?

While we haven't tested with every mod, Better Fishtanks should be compatible with most mods that add new fish. You can add any fish to our tanks!

Can this mod run on Fabric?

While there are some Visual Glitches with the water, this mod can be run on Fabric using the Kilt mod!
The functionality of this mod stays the same, there are just some visual glitches with the water in the Tank when running it on Fabric. A Fabric version of this mod is planned for the Future, but for now we are focused on the Forge 1.21.1 Port and Finishing the 1.20.1 Forge Version of the Mod! 

How can I put a Fish inside the Tank?

Shift Right-click the tank with a Fish bag that has a fish in it!

Can I use this mod in my modpack?

Absolutely! We'd be honored. All we ask is that you credit us and provide a link back to our CurseForge/Modrinth page.
If you are using the Curseforge app to publish your modpack it will be credited automatically!
