About this Mod

Better Jukebox

A variety of jukebox tweaks to make them behave like background music instead of as block sounds.

Features

  • Music disc sounds are now non-directional, meaning they play in both ears equally regardless of where you're facing
  • Automatically pauses background music while an active jukebox is within range, so the two don't conflict
    • The background music gradually fades in & out, and pauses fully when the volume fully fades out
  • Music discs now continue playing in the pause menu just like background music does
  • Jukeboxes now play at full volume from 0 to 50 blocks, fully fading out at 100 blocks

Goals

  • Add config options for jukebox distance & ticks to fade in/out

Known Issues

  • Forge 1.20.1: I can't seem to get a native Forge 1.20.1 working for some reason, but fortunately it does work with Sinytra Connector + the Fabric 1.20.1 build.

Frequently Asked Questions

Better Jukebox server crashes on startup – what to do?

Most common cause: wrong fabric version or insufficient RAM. Check the server log (latest.log) for "OutOfMemoryError" or "Mixin" errors. With Mado Hosting: ensure at least 3 GB RAM is allocated and the loader matches the mod version (1.21.8). You can switch loaders with one click in the panel.

Is Better Jukebox compatible with fabric and forge and neoforge?

Better Jukebox officially supports fabric, forge, neoforge for Minecraft 1.21.8, 1.21.1, 1.20.1. Note: Forge and Fabric mods are NOT cross-compatible – pick one loader and stick with it. The Mado dashboard automatically detects incompatible loader combinations.

Server lagging with Better Jukebox – how to optimize performance?

Recommended RAM: 4 GB (per 8 players). Use /spark profiler to check if Better Jukebox consumes the most tick time. Common fixes: reduce server view-distance to 8-10, install "performant" or "starlight" as supplementary mods on Forge. With Mado Hosting, your server runs on NVMe SSDs with dedicated CPU cores for minimal latency.
