About this Mod

Celestara

Celestara is a visual overhaul of the night sky.

The main goal of this mod is to make Minecraft nights feel more alive, without making the sky feel out of place in the game. Vanilla stars are very simple, so Celestara adds more movement, variation, and atmosphere through twinkling stars, shooting stars, comets, and rare meteor shower nights.

Stars

Celestara changes the normal star layer by giving stars more variation and subtle movement.

Instead of every star feeling completely static, stars can softly twinkle, change brightness, and rotate very slowly over time. This keeps the night sky feeling alive while still keeping the vanilla feel.

Every night, there are also some Supergiant stars. These giants are bigger and have more vibrant colors than their smaller counterparts.

Along with these factors, every single night will have a randomized intensity, normal, loud, and quiet, each is fairly self-explanatory, having fewer, more, or average moving objects and stars.

Shooting Stars

Celestara adds shooting stars that can appear during the night.

These are small, fast-moving stars that travel across the sky with a trail behind them. They are meant to be noticeable without being constant visual noise in the background.

Comets

Celestara also adds comets as a rarer night sky event.

Comets are larger than normal shooting stars and have longer, more colorful trails. They are meant to feel more special when they appear, giving a more meaningful event to happen on occasion, and also because comets are cool.

There is a very low chance for any night to generate a persistent comet, which is extremely slow and a little bigger. These special comets have a separate color pool, and they will last around 5-6 in-game day cycles.

Meteor Showers

Celestara includes rare meteor shower nights.

During a meteor shower, the sky becomes much more active, with many more shooting stars appearing throughout the night. These shooting stars will all have the same origin, and their ending point at the end of the horizon will be more tightly bound.

Comets are unable to appear during a meteor shower to help lower what is already a lot of stuff going on at once, and that also makes room for comets to be more impressive when they do appear.

Compatibility

Celestara is meant to be a simple visual improvement, so it should fit into almost any modpack.

It works well in Vanilla+ packs, survival packs, atmospheric packs, fantasy packs, or any setup where you want Minecraft nights to feel more interesting without completely changing the style of the game.

Since Celestara focuses on the sky itself, it should also pair nicely with shaders, ambience mods, biome atmosphere mods, and other visual improvement mods.

Another thing to note is that the two eclipse events do make some changes, most notably they both affect ambient lighting, and a solar eclipse makes the entire day behave as if it were night-time.

Extra's

Celestara is not meant to completely replace Minecraft’s night sky with something unrealistic or overly complicated. It is mainly focused on making the existing sky feel more alive and less like a plastered skybox.

Frequently Asked Questions

Celestara server crashes on startup – what to do?

Most common cause: wrong fabric version or insufficient RAM. Check the server log (latest.log) for "OutOfMemoryError" or "Mixin" errors. With Mado Hosting: ensure at least 3 GB RAM is allocated and the loader matches the mod version (1.20.1). You can switch loaders with one click in the panel.

Is Celestara compatible with fabric?

Celestara officially supports fabric for Minecraft 1.20.1. The Mado dashboard automatically detects incompatible loader combinations.

Server lagging with Celestara – how to optimize performance?

Recommended RAM: 4 GB (per 8 players). Use /spark profiler to check if Celestara consumes the most tick time. Common fixes: reduce server view-distance to 8-10, install "performant" or "starlight" as supplementary mods on Forge. With Mado Hosting, your server runs on NVMe SSDs with dedicated CPU cores for minimal latency.
