About this Mod
Cinderwood
A standalone mod for Minecraft 1.21.1 (NeoForge)
A stripped down port of the burnt wood system from the Sleepwalk mod. No spells, no entities, no weather. Just fire, charcoal, and a full burnt wood set. This mod is a special request from a friend but I figured I would release it to the public too.
Features
Fire Conversion
When fire touches any vanilla wood block (logs, planks, doors, fences, chests, signs, stairs, etc.), it converts to a burnt variant instead of being destroyed. This mod changes vanilla fire spreading to actively ignite nearby flammable blocks and convert interior wood (logs and leaves with no air exposure). Block state properties like axis, facing, hinge, and half are preserved during conversion.
Full Burnt Wood Set
Every wood variant you would expect. Logs, stripped logs, wood, stripped wood, planks, stairs, slabs, fences, fence gates, doors, trapdoors, buttons, pressure plates, standing signs, wall signs, hanging signs, wall hanging signs, chests, leaves, saplings, boats, and chest boats.
Burnt Logs to Charcoal
Breaking burnt logs and stripped logs drops 1 to 3 charcoal without Silk Touch. Burnt leaves also drop charcoal, sticks, and saplings based on their own drop table.
Saplings
Burnt saplings drop from burnt leaves at a 2.5% rate. They can only be planted on soul soil or soul sand. Once placed, they take one hour of real time to grow into a burnt tree. Use Withered Bonemeal to force grow them instantly instead. Saplings can form four small tree variants and two mega variants with a 2 by 2 formation.
Withered Bonemeal
Craft it with one bone meal and one wither rose to get two withered bonemeal. Right click a burnt sapling on soul soil to instantly grow it into a tree, bypassing the one hour timer.
Full Crafting
All standard wood recipes are supported. Slabs, stairs, sticks, doors, trapdoors, fences, fence gates, buttons, pressure plates, signs, hanging signs, chests, and boats. Burnt planks can also craft vanilla items like crafting tables, beds, barrels, jukeboxes, note blocks, and wooden tools.
Only supports neoforge and a single version of minecraft but if enough people like it, I'll port the mod to other versions of minecraft and for other modloaders too.
Keep an eye out for Sleepwalk. Comming soon.

Cinderwood server crashes on startup – what to do?
Most common cause: wrong neoforge version or insufficient RAM. Check the server log (latest.log) for "OutOfMemoryError" or "Mixin" errors. With Mado Hosting: ensure at least 4 GB RAM is allocated and the loader matches the mod version (1.21.1). You can switch loaders with one click in the panel.

Cinderwood officially supports neoforge for Minecraft 1.21.1. The Mado dashboard automatically detects incompatible loader combinations.
Server lagging with Cinderwood – how to optimize performance?
Recommended RAM: 6 GB (per 5 players). Use /spark profiler to check if Cinderwood consumes the most tick time. Common fixes: reduce server view-distance to 8-10, install "performant" or "starlight" as supplementary mods on Forge. With Mado Hosting, your server runs on NVMe SSDs with dedicated CPU cores for minimal latency.
