About this Mod
A simple mod adding multiple layers of clouds with configurable height, thickness, speed and direction.
Default Layers
By default, there are two layers of clouds:
- Fancy style clouds at Y: 180
- Fast style clouds at Y: 256
These resemble Cumulus and Cirrus clouds.

Custom Layers
You can add or edit existing cloud layers using the config menu (accessible with mod menu). Alternatively, edit the config file at config/cloud-layers.json.

Cloud Appearance
Use the following options to change the shape of clouds:
- Thickness, the vertical width of the cloud layer
- If 0, they are rendered as Fast style clouds
- Vanilla Fancy style clouds have thickness 4
- Scale, the horizontal width of each cloud pixel
- This is always 12 in vanilla
You can also change the opacity, making clouds transparent.

Cloud Movement
You can change the speed that clouds move, and select the direction of movement.

The option Use Relative Height makes a cloud layer appear to stay fixed in the sky, regardless of how high the player goes, simulating a skybox effect.
Conditions to render
You can add layers that only show up when it is raining.

Cloud Layers server crashes on startup – what to do?
Most common cause: wrong fabric version or insufficient RAM. Check the server log (latest.log) for "OutOfMemoryError" or "Mixin" errors. With Mado Hosting: ensure at least 3 GB RAM is allocated and the loader matches the mod version (1.21.1). You can switch loaders with one click in the panel.
Is Cloud Layers compatible with fabric and quilt?
Cloud Layers officially supports fabric, quilt for Minecraft 1.21.1, 1.21, 1.20.4. The Mado dashboard automatically detects incompatible loader combinations.
Server lagging with Cloud Layers – how to optimize performance?
Recommended RAM: 4 GB (per 8 players). Use /spark profiler to check if Cloud Layers consumes the most tick time. Common fixes: reduce server view-distance to 8-10, install "performant" or "starlight" as supplementary mods on Forge. With Mado Hosting, your server runs on NVMe SSDs with dedicated CPU cores for minimal latency.
