Creaking Control is a datapack that lets you control creakings by altering that creaking's heart

This idea came to my mind the exact moment Mojang talked about how the creaking was a puppet of the creaking heart. However, since then much has changed and it took me a lot to make the pack work. Also it's not finished, some things are missing, but i was starting to get a bit worried i wouldn't have made it in time as the Garden Awakens drop just released as im writing this, and already someone has had a similar idea of being able to control creakings.

Guide to use the datapack

I suggest watching the youtube guide up above because its a lot more complicated than you'd think.

The first thing you have to do is craft and edited creaking heart with 4 copper ingots surrounding a creaking heart. After placing it between two pale oak logs just like a normal creaking heart, you'll have to focus it (right click) with an echo shard or with a resin shard, crafted with 2 resin clumps in a vertical line. If you're using an echo shard, you'll have to wait for the creaking to spawn to focus the heart, while using instead a resin shard will work even if there's still no creaking (that's because the creaking heart prefers resin shards over echo shards). After using one of the shards, around the heart will form a focus of the shard's color.
When the creaking spawns, the focused creaking heart will emit particles, and if you used a resin shard to focus the heart then the focus will be consumed.
Now you can actually control the creaking heart by right clicking on it, here are all the thing you can do:

  • control the creaking (with WASD)
  • attack the creaking heart to create a particle trail connecting creaking and heart
  • make the creaking sprint (only if you used an echo shard as focus)

Its possible to also focus an edited creaking heart with an ender pearl. This thing is not an alternative to the shards, but it can be added on top. If above the ender-focused creaking heart there's a resin block, the next time the creaking heart's creaking respawns it will get teleported on it.

You can also craft a creaking compass with 8 resin bricks and a compass.
If you get hit by a creaking while holding a creaking compass, that creaking compass will begin to track the creaking itself. If the creaking dies, the compass will reset to the original form.

Normal creaking hearts can now also sometimes drop a clothed resin shard, that functions the same as a normal resin shard but is used to make a secret advancement that i won't tell you about.

Last thing added is a gamerule (off by default) that enables the ability to leash the creaking to any entity, like a moving fence. First you have to get attacked by the creaking while holding a lead, and that will leash the creaking to you. Then you can right click any other entity with a lead and that will leash the entity to the leashed creaking.

Future additions

Many things still have to be added, like:

  • a way for the creaking to attack other entities and deal damage (not much, it would be unbalanced)
  • a new focus (an eyeblossom) that lets the creaking do area attacks
  • automating the creaking heart using copper bulbs
  • a resin spyglass, that lets you look from the creaking perspective (that will be changed with core shaders, that are like creeper vision)

Frequently Asked Questions

Creaking Control server crashes on startup – what to do?

Most common cause: wrong datapack version or insufficient RAM. Check the server log (latest.log) for "OutOfMemoryError" or "Mixin" errors. With Mado Hosting: ensure at least 3 GB RAM is allocated and the loader matches the mod version (1.21.4). You can switch loaders with one click in the panel.

Is Creaking Control compatible with datapack and fabric and forge and neoforge and quilt?

Creaking Control officially supports datapack, fabric, forge, neoforge, quilt for Minecraft 1.21.4. Note: Forge and Fabric mods are NOT cross-compatible – pick one loader and stick with it. The Mado dashboard automatically detects incompatible loader combinations.

Server lagging with Creaking Control – how to optimize performance?

Recommended RAM: 4 GB (per 8 players). Use /spark profiler to check if Creaking Control consumes the most tick time. Common fixes: reduce server view-distance to 8-10, install "performant" or "starlight" as supplementary mods on Forge. With Mado Hosting, your server runs on NVMe SSDs with dedicated CPU cores for minimal latency.
