Custom Nausea
Allows disabling, replacing, or modifying the strength of the Nausea effect.
About this Mod
This project has been discontinued. Minecraft 1.16.2 adds new accessibility settings, one of them being a setting to control the intensity of the nausea effect. Although this mod has a stumbling feature as well, I do not feel that alone justifies continuing the project when its main purpose is now obsolete.
Custom Nausea is a mod that allows players to modify the strength of the Nausea screen effect through the configuration file. This is for players who find the vanilla screen wobbling to be too strong or, for lack of a better word, nauseating. In addition, there are options to also modify the strength of the distortion effect when going through the portal and to introduce "stumbling" movement when under the Nausea effect to replace or supplement the vanilla screen wobbling. The latter behavior is inspired by this suggestion on r/minecraftsuggestions.
Configuration Options
Nausea
- Modifier - A decimal number that represents the strength of the Nausea screen effect, default is 1.0 for vanilla strength.
- Stumbling Movement - If set to true, the Nausea effect will cause your movements to jerk in random directions making it difficult to walk/sprint correctly.
Portal
- Modifier - A decimal number that represents the strength of the portal distortion effect, default is 1.0 for vanilla strength.

Most common cause: wrong fabric version or insufficient RAM. Check the server log (latest.log) for "OutOfMemoryError" or "Mixin" errors. With Mado Hosting: ensure at least 3 GB RAM is allocated and the loader matches the mod version (1.16.1). You can switch loaders with one click in the panel.

Custom Nausea officially supports fabric, forge for Minecraft 1.16.1, 1.15.2, 1.14.4. Note: Forge and Fabric mods are NOT cross-compatible – pick one loader and stick with it. The Mado dashboard automatically detects incompatible loader combinations.
Server lagging with Custom Nausea – how to optimize performance?
Recommended RAM: 4 GB (per 8 players). Use /spark profiler to check if Custom Nausea consumes the most tick time. Common fixes: reduce server view-distance to 8-10, install "performant" or "starlight" as supplementary mods on Forge. With Mado Hosting, your server runs on NVMe SSDs with dedicated CPU cores for minimal latency.
