About this Mod

Death Chest Datapack

When a player dies, items in their inventory are stored in a chest minecart.

Tested Version

  • 1.21.11

Specifications

  • Upon death, a chest minecart is summoned at the death location.
  • Items held at the time of death are stored in the chest minecart.
  • If a player dies by falling into the End void, a chest will float on the ground at y=0 or their current coordinates.
  • The summoned chest minecart will emit a beacon to indicate its location.
  • If the chest minecart is loaded, the direction of the chest minecart will be displayed to the owner (the deceased player).
  • The name of the player who died in the chest minecart is displayed to identify the player.
  • The chest will automatically disappear 30 minutes after death (items will be dropped).
  • Time will not be counted if the chest is not loaded.
  • This will not work properly unless keepInventory is set to true.

Frequently Asked Questions

DeathChest server crashes on startup – what to do?

Most common cause: wrong datapack version or insufficient RAM. Check the server log (latest.log) for "OutOfMemoryError" or "Mixin" errors. With Mado Hosting: ensure at least 3 GB RAM is allocated and the loader matches the mod version (1.21.11). You can switch loaders with one click in the panel.

Is DeathChest compatible with datapack and fabric and forge and neoforge and quilt?

DeathChest officially supports datapack, fabric, forge, neoforge, quilt for Minecraft 1.21.11, 1.21.10, 1.21.9. Note: Forge and Fabric mods are NOT cross-compatible – pick one loader and stick with it. The Mado dashboard automatically detects incompatible loader combinations.

Server lagging with DeathChest – how to optimize performance?

Recommended RAM: 4 GB (per 8 players). Use /spark profiler to check if DeathChest consumes the most tick time. Common fixes: reduce server view-distance to 8-10, install "performant" or "starlight" as supplementary mods on Forge. With Mado Hosting, your server runs on NVMe SSDs with dedicated CPU cores for minimal latency.
