This mod adds a dedicated keybind for the shield.
About this Mod
Lets start with what this mod does:
It simply adds a separate keybind for the blocking mechanic of the shield. The default Key is R, but you can change it to whatever fits you best.
This mod fixes an annoying issue that always bothered me when playing Minecraft, especially modded Minecraft. Whenever you use a cool custom weapon, most of the time it has a unique right-click function or ability. This completely overrides the vanilla shield's blocking mechanic and renders your shield useless. This mod basically fixes that problem.
This mod will likely receive little to no updates, because it already does what its supposed to do.
Fixes will be made where needed, if there is really a problem.
Since this mod is very useful to me, I might port this mod to newer and previous versions of MC later on, depending on what versions I play the most.
Note: On version 1.0.4 and above, you can restore the normal functionality of the shield by unbinding the shield key.

How to Install Dedicated Shield Keybind on Your Server
Order Server
Order a Minecraft Java server with at least 3 GB RAM (4 GB recommended).
Set fabric Loader
In the panel under "Egg", select the fabric loader and matching Minecraft version (1.21.1).
Install Mod
Open the mod browser in the dashboard and search for "Dedicated Shield Keybind". Click "Install" – done! Alternatively, upload the .jar via SFTP to the /mods folder.

Dedicated Shield Keybind server crashes on startup – what to do?
Most common cause: wrong fabric version or insufficient RAM. Check the server log (latest.log) for "OutOfMemoryError" or "Mixin" errors. With Mado Hosting: ensure at least 3 GB RAM is allocated and the loader matches the mod version (1.21.1). You can switch loaders with one click in the panel.
Is Dedicated Shield Keybind compatible with fabric and forge and neoforge?
Dedicated Shield Keybind officially supports fabric, forge, neoforge for Minecraft 1.21.1, 1.20.1. Note: Forge and Fabric mods are NOT cross-compatible – pick one loader and stick with it. The Mado dashboard automatically detects incompatible loader combinations.
Server lagging with Dedicated Shield Keybind – how to optimize performance?
Recommended RAM: 4 GB (per 8 players). Use /spark profiler to check if Dedicated Shield Keybind consumes the most tick time. Common fixes: reduce server view-distance to 8-10, install "performant" or "starlight" as supplementary mods on Forge.
