About this Mod

This pack will not receive any updates in the future.

It uses features that only very briefly existed in the game to be able to work without a resource pack, and I do not currently have plans to overhaul it.

This data pack can make your tools dyeable, without requiring a mod or resource pack installed on the client!

Making a tool dyable.

In order to make a tool dyeable, combine it with a Phantom Membrane and a piece of dye in a smithing table. After that, you are able to redye it with any combination of dye you want in a crafting table!

Redying a white diamond sword to be pink.

There are some known issues with no known solution as of now, due to the way this data pack actually functions:

  • Dyed shovels, axes, and hoes no longer have their secondary right click functions.
  • Dyed diamond tools cannot be upgraded to Netherite.

Frequently Asked Questions

Dyeable Tools server crashes on startup – what to do?

Most common cause: wrong datapack version or insufficient RAM. Check the server log (latest.log) for "OutOfMemoryError" or "Mixin" errors. With Mado Hosting: ensure at least 3 GB RAM is allocated and the loader matches the mod version (1.21.3). You can switch loaders with one click in the panel.

Is Dyeable Tools compatible with datapack and fabric and forge and neoforge and quilt?

Dyeable Tools officially supports datapack, fabric, forge, neoforge, quilt for Minecraft 1.21.3, 1.21.2. Note: Forge and Fabric mods are NOT cross-compatible – pick one loader and stick with it. The Mado dashboard automatically detects incompatible loader combinations.

Server lagging with Dyeable Tools – how to optimize performance?

Recommended RAM: 4 GB (per 8 players). Use /spark profiler to check if Dyeable Tools consumes the most tick time. Common fixes: reduce server view-distance to 8-10, install "performant" or "starlight" as supplementary mods on Forge. With Mado Hosting, your server runs on NVMe SSDs with dedicated CPU cores for minimal latency.
