About this Mod
Fish Traps
Automate fishing without standing around. Fish Traps let you place an underwater trap, insert a fishing rod, and passively catch fish while you play.
The trap uses vanilla fishing mechanics and loot tables, so everything stays balanced and familiar.
How It Works
- Place the trap underwater (it must be waterlogged)
- Insert a fishing rod into the trap’s GUI
- The trap automatically fishes over time
- Collect items from the output slots or extract them with a hopper
Features
- Set-and-forget automation
- Catches fish, junk, and treasure using vanilla fishing loot tables
- Visual status feedback
- Rising bubbles while the trap is actively working
- Circle ndicator shows whether open water requirements are met
- Green (open water) or red (not open water)
- Open water bonus
- Open water enables treasure drops
- Catch speed is 2× faster when conditions are met
- Full enchantment support
- Works with all vanilla fishing enchantments
- Mending repairs the rod using catch XP
- XP is consumed internally and not given to the player (prevents XP farming)
- Automation-friendly
- Hopper-compatible output for semi-automated fish farms
- Balanced gameplay
- Fishing rods take durability and can break
- Base catch time: 60–120 seconds
Open Water Requirements
To qualify as open water, the trap must have:
- 2 blocks of water in every horizontal direction
- At least 1 block of water above the trap

Fish Traps server crashes on startup – what to do?
Most common cause: wrong fabric version or insufficient RAM. Check the server log (latest.log) for "OutOfMemoryError" or "Mixin" errors. With Mado Hosting: ensure at least 3 GB RAM is allocated and the loader matches the mod version (1.21.10). You can switch loaders with one click in the panel.
Is Fish Traps compatible with fabric?
Fish Traps officially supports fabric for Minecraft 1.21.10. The Mado dashboard automatically detects incompatible loader combinations.
Server lagging with Fish Traps – how to optimize performance?
Recommended RAM: 4 GB (per 8 players). Use /spark profiler to check if Fish Traps consumes the most tick time. Common fixes: reduce server view-distance to 8-10, install "performant" or "starlight" as supplementary mods on Forge. With Mado Hosting, your server runs on NVMe SSDs with dedicated CPU cores for minimal latency.
