About this Mod

About

We've all killed a sheep in Minecraft before to get wool for a bed or build. But why kill when a much better alternative exists: shearing. It's one of those often overlooked game mechanics that really should get used more but just end up existing in the background.
As someone who likes sheep, I hence decided to create this simple mod/datapack.

With HappySheep installed, sheep will now display heart particles similar to newly tamed animals when sheared and the player will have a 50% chance of getting the regeneration effect after shearing, hopefully providing an extra incentive to be nice and spend the little time and resources required to craft shears. And one can only wonder what lies shrouded by the elusive pink sheep...

(SPOILER) Pink Sheep

Shearing a naturally spawned pink sheep now represents a 20% chance of obtaining a bottle of the long-forgotten Shepherd's Ale, which grants 2 minutes of Luck II. This chance is rolled every time the sheep is sheared, meaning it might be a good idea to keep a pink sheep around, should you find one.

Please note that dyeing a sheep pink does not count and shearing it will not work, meaning you must find and shear an authentic pink sheep on your travels :).

Frequently Asked Questions

HappySheep server crashes on startup – what to do?

Most common cause: wrong datapack version or insufficient RAM. Check the server log (latest.log) for "OutOfMemoryError" or "Mixin" errors. With Mado Hosting: ensure at least 3 GB RAM is allocated and the loader matches the mod version (1.21.11). You can switch loaders with one click in the panel.

Is HappySheep compatible with datapack and fabric and forge and neoforge and quilt?

HappySheep officially supports datapack, fabric, forge, neoforge, quilt for Minecraft 1.21.11, 1.21.10, 1.21.9. Note: Forge and Fabric mods are NOT cross-compatible – pick one loader and stick with it. The Mado dashboard automatically detects incompatible loader combinations.

Server lagging with HappySheep – how to optimize performance?

Recommended RAM: 4 GB (per 8 players). Use /spark profiler to check if HappySheep consumes the most tick time. Common fixes: reduce server view-distance to 8-10, install "performant" or "starlight" as supplementary mods on Forge. With Mado Hosting, your server runs on NVMe SSDs with dedicated CPU cores for minimal latency.
