About this Mod

What is it?

Over the Top is a NeoForge 1.21.8 minecraft mod aiming to add Trench Warfare from the Great War. It adds decorative blocks such as Sandbags, Sandbag Walls, Trench Fortifications etc. The mod is currently in its Beta phase, so please expect bugs, and if you are to find bugs, please report them here. It is advised to use JEI if in survival mode.

Blocks

Over the Top includes many blocks like Sandbags, Razor Wire, Landmines, Corrugated Metal, and Sandbag Walls + Trench Fortifications and their variations (which modules like firesteps or ladders can be added onto).

Fortifications

The fortification blocks consist of Sandbag Walls and Wooden Trench Fortifications, these blocks can have firesteps or trench ladders placed onto them. If a fortification has a firestep you can place firestep modules like a firestep kettle or firestep crate.

undefined

Sandbag Wall variations consist of Corner, Firestep Corner, Firestep, Firestep Crate, Firestep Kettle, and Trench ladder.

Wooden Trench Fortifications consist of Corner, Firestep Corner, Duel Piece, End-Duel Piece, Firestep, Firestep Crate, Firestep Kettle, and Trench ladder.

Fortifications can change model with a screwdriver on 'Alter' mode, they can also be rotated with the screwdriver on 'Rotate' mode.

Items

Over the Top adds many items such as the saw, which allows you to remove modules from fortifications easily, and also drop said modules. Or the screwdriver which allows you to alter fortification models, or rotate them. Or perhaps the Trench Whistle which when used gives Speed III, Haste III, and Strength III for ten seconds to everyone in a 25 block radius.

There is also the Empty Mug, Mug of Water, and Mug of Tea. To make a cuppa tea, you need to first get your mug and put some water on it, by right clicking water - Just like a bucket or bottle! Then you need to get any tree leaves block and right click on a kettle with both the leaves and the mug and in about 20 seconds you'll have a nice steamin cuppa tea.

Q&A

Q: Does this mod add guns?

A: In its current stage it does not, the only weapons added are Razor Wire, Landmines, and Mortars.

Q: Will this mod be much use in singleplayer?

Q: Where can I report bugs?

A: Please report bugs here.

Q: Where are all the recipes?

A: Documentation is currently being worked on but may take a while, its suggested you use JEI or another recipe viewer in the meantime.

Q: Can I use this mod in either modpacks, servers, or YouTube videos?

A: Go ahead!

Frequently Asked Questions

Over the Top server crashes on startup – what to do?

Most common cause: wrong neoforge version or insufficient RAM. Check the server log (latest.log) for "OutOfMemoryError" or "Mixin" errors. With Mado Hosting: ensure at least 3 GB RAM is allocated and the loader matches the mod version (1.21.8). You can switch loaders with one click in the panel.

Is Over the Top compatible with neoforge?

Over the Top officially supports neoforge for Minecraft 1.21.8. The Mado dashboard automatically detects incompatible loader combinations.

Server lagging with Over the Top – how to optimize performance?

Recommended RAM: 4 GB (per 8 players). Use /spark profiler to check if Over the Top consumes the most tick time. Common fixes: reduce server view-distance to 8-10, install "performant" or "starlight" as supplementary mods on Forge. With Mado Hosting, your server runs on NVMe SSDs with dedicated CPU cores for minimal latency.
