Photography Redeveloped
Another camera mod to take in-world photos!

About this Mod
Requires Fabric Loader and Fabric API
Photography Redeveloped adds a camera item to take in-world photos on maps.
It is a fork of Bloufin's Photography targeting modern versions.
This is my first time working on a large mod, so expect a few bugs, even though I do playtest the mod before uploading new versions to avoid issues. Thank you for your understanding!
How to use
You need a Camera and Photographic Paper to take photographs:
- A Camera is made with a Spyglass and 8 copper ingots
- Photographic Paper is made with paper and cyan, magenta, and yellow dye

Right click with a Camera open the viewfinder. Right click again to take a photo, scroll to zoom in or out, and press the escape key to exit the camera interface. Taking a photo consumes Photographic Paper and gives you a Photograph.

Why another camera mod?
This mod has been continued to fulfil my very specific needs. I wanted a camera mod that was optional for clients, and for which photograph items are compatible with future versions of Minecraft, even without the mod installed. For clarification, the mod is required on the client and server in order to take photos. However, it doesn't prevent vanilla clients from joining (including Bedrock players through Geyser), and all players can see the photographs and the photographs will remain after the mod is uninstalled (as they are just vanilla maps with custom image data).
Update when?
I am continuing development of this mod because it fit my needs, except for only being available on 1.21.1. With that in mind, updates to newer Minecraft versions will generally come if/when the server I play on updates.
Other recommended camera mods
- Exposure by mortuusars is fantastic, and has a much better process and more features than this mod. However, it is required on both client and server, its photos will disappear when uninstalled, and it is only available for 1.21.1.
- Camera Obscura by tomalbrc is a purely server-side camera mod that uses retracing to take photos on vanilla maps. While it is extremely impressive technically, I wanted to take photos using my client for rendering so shaders and visual mods can be used.
- Polaroid Camera by HyperPigeon was Bloufin's inspiration for this mod. Similar to this mod, it adds a simple camera that takes photos on vanilla maps. Unlike this mod, it adds a non-vanilla camera item, preventing vanilla clients from joining.
Photography uses some code from Image2Map by TheEssem, Patbox, and contributors to render photos on to maps, and the Mixin from NoWheel by uku to allow scrolling to zoom while using a camera. Many thanks to those authors!

Photography Redeveloped server crashes on startup – what to do?
Most common cause: wrong fabric version or insufficient RAM. Check the server log (latest.log) for "OutOfMemoryError" or "Mixin" errors. With Mado Hosting: ensure at least 3 GB RAM is allocated and the loader matches the mod version (26.2-pre-1). You can switch loaders with one click in the panel.
Is Photography Redeveloped compatible with fabric?
Photography Redeveloped officially supports fabric for Minecraft 26.2-pre-1, 26.1.2, 26.1.1. The Mado dashboard automatically detects incompatible loader combinations.
Server lagging with Photography Redeveloped – how to optimize performance?
Recommended RAM: 4 GB (per 8 players). Use /spark profiler to check if Photography Redeveloped consumes the most tick time. Common fixes: reduce server view-distance to 8-10, install "performant" or "starlight" as supplementary mods on Forge. With Mado Hosting, your server runs on NVMe SSDs with dedicated CPU cores for minimal latency.
