About This Fork
This is an updated and optimized fork of the original https://modrinth.com/mod/corner-portal-linking by starbidou. All credit for the original concept and implementation goes to them. This fork brings the mod to Minecraft 1.21 with performance improvements.
What It Does
This mod helps you tell the game how Nether portals in the same area should connect. Instead of relying on unpredictable vanilla portal linking, you can create unique "signatures" for your portals using glazed terracotta blocks.
How It Works
It's really simple:
- Place glazed terracotta at the four corners of your portal to create a pattern
- Travel through the portal - the destination portal with the best matching corner pattern is selected
- No corners? The mod defaults to vanilla behavior - fully backward compatible!
Pattern Matching Rules
- Horizontal orientation doesn't matter - patterns are matched even when flipped/mirrored
- More matches = higher priority - portals matching more corners win
- Tiebreaker - if multiple portals match equally, vanilla distance priority is used
- Any glazed terracotta works - all 16 colors can be used to create patterns
