Second Person Camera
A Fabric client-side mod that adds a true second-person camera mode: control your player while viewing the world from nearby mobs.
About this Mod
Second Person Camera
Second Person Camera is a client-side Fabric mod for Minecraft 1.21.11 that adds a true second-person camera mode.
Instead of switching control to another entity, the mod keeps full control on your own player while moving the camera to a nearby mob.
You still walk, interact, and play as yourself — the camera only observes the world from another creature's point of view.
Features
- Adds a second-person mob camera as an extra step in the F5 camera cycle
- Keeps control on the player at all times
- Never transfers input to the selected mob
- Uses the mob's own head direction and eye/camera position
- Lets you switch between nearby mobs
- Shows which mob is currently used as the camera target
- Handles missing targets safely with graceful fallback
- Fully client-side, no server support required
Default controls
- F5 — cycle camera modes, including second-person mode
- V — next target
- B — previous target
- R — refresh nearby targets
How it works
When second-person mode is enabled, the mod searches for nearby mobs in a configurable radius and selects one as the active camera target.
The player still:
- moves normally
- breaks and places blocks as normal
- remains the real controlled entity
The selected mob:
- is not possessed
- does not become controllable
- keeps its normal AI and movement
- only provides the camera position and orientation
Target handling
The mod includes a safe fallback system:
- If the current target leaves range for a moment, it can be kept briefly
- If the target dies or disappears, the mod switches to another valid mob
- If no mobs are nearby, the camera returns safely without freezing or crashing
