About this Mod
SnowPED is a survival-focused mod that turns the world into a frozen, unforgiving place. Plants no longer grow, food is scarce, temperature is lethal, and the environment itself is a primary threat. The mod combines magic, fantasy, and technical systems to create a slow, oppressive survival experience with configurable mechanics.
Core Features
- Advanced temperature system with visual indicators (F9).
- Frozen world - constant snow, thick ice, and rapidly freezing water.
- No crop growth and no bone meal usage.
- Severe food limitations and alternative nutrition sources.
- Player graves that preserve inventory and experience.
- Custom commands and server-side configuration.
Temperature System
Press F9 to visualize nearby temperature using icons:
- Ice - cold
- Fire - heat
- Heart - comfort
Staying in warm zones keeps you safe.
Cold and heat deal direct damage and can kill the player.
Due to technical limitations, temperature heavily depends on surrounding light levels.
Water freezes faster than the player can freeze in it.
Open water freezes quickly; under ice, water can be up to 7 blocks deep.
Snow constantly falls in loaded chunks and layers infinitely.
Frost Update
- The entire Nether requires light level 9+ and permanent night vision.
- Campfires and fire extinguish after 1 minute.
- Any water freezes after 20 seconds.
- Leather armor provides warmth but breaks very quickly.
- Snow falls everywhere and stacks infinitely.
- Snowstorm system - canceled (too complex to implement).
/yourline ultrasnow true/false- instantly die from cold or heat when enabled.
Food and Survival
Animal Drops
- Pigs - lard (
yourline:lard) - Cows - leather only
- Chickens - feathers only
- Sheep - wool only
- Rabbits - leather only
Main Food Sources
Sawdust Soup
- Crafted from any wood + a bowl of water
- Gives a small amount of food and nausea
- Better than nothing
Fish - one of the few reliable food sources
Plants do not grow at all, making sawdust soup and fish the primary diet.
Items and Blocks
Bowl of Water
- Filled from a cauldron
- Provides no hunger or saturation
- Exists purely as a crafting component
Locked Book
- Rarely found in dungeons
- When opened, grants a random enchanted book
- Random enchantment levels and count
Yanta (Hand Warmer)
- Cannot be crafted
- Appears in the player inventory after death
- Temporarily protects from cold
- Consumed very quickly
- Must be held in hand to function
Melted Milk
- Milk processed in a smoker
- Restores hunger
- In development
Graves System
/yourline grave true/false
After death, a grave block appears and stores inventory and experience using NBT.
Grave types depend on cause of death:
- Ice Grave (
ice_grave) - frozen to death - Coal Grave (
coal_grave) - burned by fire (not lava) - Soul Sand Grave (
soul_sand_grave) - any other death
Only the owner can recover the grave. Other players cannot break or move it. Using pistons will destroy the grave without dropping items.
Void Dimension
- Technical dimension
- Access via command:
/yourline dimension <dimension_name>
- Used for internal and system-related mechanics
Enchantments
Destroyer of the Worlds Boundaries
- Applied to pickaxes
- Breaking the enchanted pickaxe reduces the world border
- Grants a new resource: Venye
Dialog System
%Message- sends a message without a character name%!Message- sends a message as the character/yourline setname <name>- sets the character name
Example:
/yourline setname Jonatan
%!Hello
Output:
Jonatan: Hello

SnowPED server crashes on startup – what to do?
Most common cause: wrong forge version or insufficient RAM. Check the server log (latest.log) for "OutOfMemoryError" or "Mixin" errors. With Mado Hosting: ensure at least 4 GB RAM is allocated and the loader matches the mod version (1.20.1). You can switch loaders with one click in the panel.
Is SnowPED compatible with forge?
SnowPED officially supports forge for Minecraft 1.20.1. The Mado dashboard automatically detects incompatible loader combinations.
Server lagging with SnowPED – how to optimize performance?
Recommended RAM: 6 GB (per 5 players). Use /spark profiler to check if SnowPED consumes the most tick time. Common fixes: reduce server view-distance to 8-10, install "performant" or "starlight" as supplementary mods on Forge. With Mado Hosting, your server runs on NVMe SSDs with dedicated CPU cores for minimal latency.
