Version 1.21.7 introduces multiple levels for the Stepping enchantment and expands mod loader compatibility!The latest version of Step now features two levels of the enchantment. Stepping I allows you to walk up one full block, while Stepping II lets you ascend a block and a slab (1.5 blocks). This update also brings widespread compatibility, with support for Fabric, Forge, NeoForge, and Quilt.
💡 What is Step?
The Stepping enchantment can be obtained similarly to Depth Strider, via an Enchantment Table. It is a treasure enchantment that can be found at around level 20+, on diamond boots for reference. This balanced enchantment allows you to walk up blocks without needing to jump, seamlessly integrating into your vanilla gameplay.A new feature in version 1.21.7 is the introduction of multiple enchantment levels. Older versions only included a single level.
- Stepping I: Allows you to walk up a single full block.
- Stepping II: Allows you to walk up the height of one block and a slab (1.5 blocks).

How to Install Step on Your Server
Order Server
Order a Minecraft Java server with at least 3 GB RAM (4 GB recommended).
Set fabric Loader
In the panel under "Egg", select the fabric loader and matching Minecraft version (26.1.2).
Install Mod
Open the mod browser in the dashboard and search for "Step". Click "Install" – done! Alternatively, upload the .jar via SFTP to the /mods folder.

Step server crashes on startup – what to do?
Most common cause: wrong fabric version or insufficient RAM. Check the server log (latest.log) for "OutOfMemoryError" or "Mixin" errors. With Mado Hosting: ensure at least 3 GB RAM is allocated and the loader matches the mod version (26.1.2). You can switch loaders with one click in the panel.
Is Step compatible with fabric and forge and neoforge and quilt?
Step officially supports fabric, forge, neoforge, quilt for Minecraft 26.1.2, 1.21.11, 1.21.10. Note: Forge and Fabric mods are NOT cross-compatible – pick one loader and stick with it. The Mado dashboard automatically detects incompatible loader combinations.
Server lagging with Step – how to optimize performance?
Recommended RAM: 4 GB (per 8 players). Use /spark profiler to check if Step consumes the most tick time. Common fixes: reduce server view-distance to 8-10, install "performant" or "starlight" as supplementary mods on Forge.
