About this Mod

Totem of Recovery

A simple little MCreator mod I put together for my own worlds. Figured I’d upload it in case anyone else finds it useful.

Totem of Recovery adds exactly what it says—a totem that lets you teleport back to your last death location after respawning. No more frantic corpse runs or losing your stuff to lava because you couldn’t remember where you died.

How It Works

  • When you die, the mod quietly records the exact coordinates where you fell.
  • After respawning, use the Totem of Recovery to instantly warp back to that location.
  • Cross-dimensional support — works seamlessly in the Overworld, Nether, and End.
  • Buffed on arrival — gain short bursts of Fire Resistance and Slow Falling to avoid dying again the second you get there.
  • Single-use — each totem is consumed when activated. Craft a new one for each trip.
  • If you die again before using it, the saved location resets to your most recent death. Whoops.
  • Gives Echo Shards real purpose — finally, something useful to do with those Ancient City trinkets.
  • Ancient City loot — rare chance to naturally find Totems of Recovery in Ancient City chests.

Why?

We’ve all been there: spelunking in a labyrinthine ravine, slipping off a ledge in the Nether, or getting ambushed by a creeper in the dark. Suddenly you’re on a frantic treasure hunt against the despawn timer.
This mod removes the headache—while still charging you the cost of crafting a totem—so your epic explorations can stay epic.

My Take on the Recovery Compass

The Recovery Compass sounded like a good idea on paper… but in practice, it’s awkward:

  • Dimension-locked — useless if you die in Nether or End.
  • Just points vaguely — doesn’t actually help you get there fast.
  • Resets on death — and offers no help if you die again while searching.
  • Practically useless for distant deaths — if it takes you longer than 5 minutes to hike back, your items are gone anyway. It doesn’t help in faraway places or deep caves.

“If the game just kicked me back to square one with no gear, the last thing I want is a vague arrow and a long, dangerous hike.”

Totem of Recovery skips the fluff:
✔️ Works across all dimensions
✔️ Teleports you directly to your death spot
✔️ Gives survival buffs
✔️ Still costs valuable, late-game resources
✔️ Makes Echo Shards more useful in survival

In short: it’s what the Recovery Compass wishes it was—faster, simpler, and way less frustrating.

FAQ

Q: Can I use this in my modpack or mod?
A: Absolutely. This mod can be freely used in modpacks or mods by others. No need to ask permission (though credit is appreciated!).

Q: Is this balanced?
A: ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Balanced enough. You lose the totem on use, and it’s costly to craft.

Q: Does it work in Hardcore mode?
A: Nope. Hardcore stays hardcore. You die, you’re done.

Q: Is it compatible with modpacks?
A: Yep! Lightweight and non-intrusive. Should slide into almost any pack without issue.

Q: Can I teleport into the Nether or End with it?
A: Yes! Works across all dimensions. If you died in the Nether, you’ll teleport straight back there. (Bring extra fire resistance potions just in case!)

Q: Can I stockpile a bunch? A: Sure, if you’ve got the resources. But each totem is single-use, so use wisely.

Q: Can I find it as loot or do I have to craft it every time? A: Both! You can craft it yourself, but there is also a rare chance to find it in Ancient City loot chests if you’re lucky.

Q: Will you update/downgrade this for [X Minecraft version]?
A: Maybe? I made this for myself, but if enough people ask, I might.

Q: MCreator bad. Don’t use it.
A: Wow, what an original and insightful critique. Please direct all further complaints to /dev/null.
