About this Mod

Treefyds

A standalone NeoForge mod for Minecraft 1.21.1 that adds Treefyds — carnivorous walking plants grown from hybridized seeds, inspired by John Wyndham's The Day of the Triffids and the Witchery mod's Treefyd feature.

Grow them, dock them, pen them, harvest them. Do not stand near a mature one without armor.

Requirements

  • Minecraft 1.21.1
  • NeoForge 21.1.176 or newer
  • GeckoLib 4.8 or newer (entity model + animation library)
  • Patchouli 1.21.1-93 or newer (in-game guidebook)
  • JEI (optional) — recipe viewer integration for the Treefyd Pen

Installation

  1. Install NeoForge 21.1.176+ for Minecraft 1.21.1
  2. Drop the following into your mods/ folder:
    • treefyds-1.0.0.jar (this mod)
    • geckolib-neoforge-1.21.1-4.8.x.jar
    • Patchouli-1.21.1-93-NEOFORGE.jar
  3. Launch Minecraft

What it adds

Plants & growth

  • Treefyd Seed — crafted from four vanilla seeds (wheat + beetroot + melon + pumpkin)
  • Treefyd Plant — 4-stage crop, plant on tilled farmland. Bone meal accelerates growth
  • Wild Treefyds spawn rarely in swamp and jungle biomes
  • At max age, the plant hatches into a Treefyd entity (~2 minutes random tick, or instantly with bone meal)

The creature

  • 30 HP, 4 attack damage, walks slowly but is relentless
  • Melee hits apply Blindness + Poison II
  • Drops on any kill: 1–3 seeds (always), 1–2 stalks (always), 1 oil (50% chance)

Handling

  • Stinger docking — right-click a Treefyd with vanilla shears to dock for 10 minutes. Docked Treefyds can't attack and don't pursue. Stinger regrows after the timer.
  • Treefyd Handler's Armor — 4-piece leather + stalk set with a face veil and long sleeves
    • Helmet: Blindness immunity
    • Chestplate: Poison immunity
    • Leggings + Boots: defense only

Farming

  • Treefyd Pen — 3-block-tall structure (base + 2 cage blocks)
  • Capture a docked Treefyd by right-clicking the pen near one
  • GUI with food input (raw meat / fish / rotten flesh / bones / leather), oil output, vitality bar, progress arrow
  • Each feeding restores vitality and extends life by 5 minutes (60 min hard cap)
  • ~1 Treefyd Oil per 40 seconds while vitality > 0

Resources

  • Treefyd Oil — premium drop
    • Brewing: Awkward Potion + Oil → Potion of the Treefyd (Strength II + Regen II, 1:30)
    • Long variant (+ Redstone): 3:20
    • Strong variant (+ Glowstone): Strength III + Regen III, 0:45
    • Splash + Lingering variants via vanilla brewing chain
    • Furnace fuel: burns 12 800 ticks (~32 items smelted)
  • Treefyd Stalk — raw is risky food (30% Poison I); cook in furnace/smoker/campfire for safe 5-hunger food

In-game guide

A craftable Patchouli guidebook (Book + Treefyd Stalk) covers all of the above with recipe pages and an entity preview.

Frequently Asked Questions

Treefyds server crashes on startup – what to do?

Most common cause: wrong neoforge version or insufficient RAM. Check the server log (latest.log) for "OutOfMemoryError" or "Mixin" errors. With Mado Hosting: ensure at least 4 GB RAM is allocated and the loader matches the mod version (1.21.11). You can switch loaders with one click in the panel.

Is Treefyds compatible with neoforge?

Treefyds officially supports neoforge for Minecraft 1.21.11, 1.21.10, 1.21.9. The Mado dashboard automatically detects incompatible loader combinations.

Server lagging with Treefyds – how to optimize performance?

Recommended RAM: 6 GB (per 5 players). Use /spark profiler to check if Treefyds consumes the most tick time. Common fixes: reduce server view-distance to 8-10, install "performant" or "starlight" as supplementary mods on Forge. With Mado Hosting, your server runs on NVMe SSDs with dedicated CPU cores for minimal latency.
