About this Mod

The degu, a so-called “singing rat” of the Andes!!
This mod gives us a wonderful opportunity to meet cute degus (that a little too big for degu though).
Degus will blends naturally with other vanilla animals.
Not making major changes is the Vanilla Degus aesthetic.
Spawning
Degus live in high altitudes and dry areas, and are designed to blend naturally with vanilla wildlife.
They can spawn naturally in the following biomes.
- Desert
- Savanna
- Badlands
- Meadow
- Stony Peaks
Spawn balance can also be adjusted through config/vanilla_degus/spawn.json, making it easier to tune their appearance rate for your own world or alongside other creature mods.
Appearance and animation
Degus come in several coat variations.
- Agouti
- Blue
- Sand
- Agoutipied
- Black
- White
Some rarer colors only appear at low rates in certain biomes.
- Black: Savanna, Badlands, Meadow
- White: Desert, Badlands, Meadow
Degus can also dance when a jukebox is playing, adding a little more personality to villages, bases, and animal pens.

Behavior
Degus sometimes eat and destroy wild grass and dead bush on their own.
They are interested in rabbits and cows and avoid wild wolves, wild cats, etc.
They avoid fighting.
Taming, feeding and breeding
A degu can be tamed by feeding it grass or dead bush.
Once tamed, it receives a red collar like wolf and cat. (In reality, degu doesn't wear a collar, though.)
Their staple foods are grass and dead bush.
They can eat other some plants, but grass and dead bush are best suited for them!
Tamed degus at full health can be bred with their staple foods.
Hidden traits and owner interaction
Degus have more personality than simple passive animals.
They can become obese if they are fed too many rich foods such as sweets, cakes, seeds, grains, and other treats, and unlike ordinary animals, they will keep getting hungry and can be fed regularly even when already at full health.
They can also build Happiness through time spent with their owner and regular feeding. If their owner attacks them, that Happiness will fall.

Degu's Grace
If a degu becomes happy enough, it can grant its owner the Degu's Grace effect when fed by them.
This effect allows players to live a little more like a degu: they can eat grass, tall grass, short dry grass, tall dry grass, and dead bush directly, and can also restore hunger by breaking them.
