About this Mod

XP in Minecraft serves two main purposes:

  1. Primary - Enchanting resource
  2. Secondary - Subjective value for players

However, gains and means of obtainment are wildly disproportional to the action done.

The final result of using this mod is a substantial inflation of XP gains for players.

This mod is only required on a server to be funcitonal.

Motivation

There are not enough ways to obtain XP. This is especially obvious in the early game. Players should get XP for most of the meaningful world interactions, not just from mining certain ores or killing mobs. Automated interactions should never yield XP, and the entire system shouldnt be balanced around highly efficient XP/mob farms.

Likewise, existing sources often provide very inssufficient XP reward, making an impression that it is merely cosmetic.

Additionally, on death all but a tiny sliver of XP is lost, making an already taxing death an equivalent of total XP loss.

This mod does not attempt to add more use to the XP system. Primary purpose is to balance the gains and losses.

Sources

  • Breaking fully grown crops, including:
    • Chorus Flowers (including player projectile)
    • Nether Warts
    • Sweet Berry Bushes (including right-clicking)
    • Cocoa
  • All advancements have flat extra XP attached. This does not include advancements that never display
  • Shearing sheeps
  • Scaling mob XP drops based on difficulty:
    • Easy -> x0.75
    • Normal -> x1 (unchanged)
    • Hard -> x1.25
  • Opening treasure containers: this includes any container with a loot table attached, such as chests, barrels, decorated pots. Player will gain XP when such container is first opened/broken. Amount is chosen based on the dimension:
    • Overworld -> 25
    • Nether -> 35
    • End -> 45
    • Modded dimensions are treated as the Nether
  • Smelting: gain extra XP based on resulting item rarity. This is mainly intended for modpacks.
    • Common -> 2
    • Uncommon -> 10
    • Rare -> 25
    • Epic -> 50
  • Collecting honeycombs and honey bottles from beehives/nests: get more XP if bees are undisturbed (campfire underneath)

More might be considered in the future.

Loss

When dying, players no longer lose all XP. Instead only half of XP levels are lost. The default XP orb that spawns on death is unmodified. This frees the labour of PVP balancing.

Mod compatibility

Advanced mod compatibility likely wont be planned. All beforementioned features will work in virtually all mods, however more exotic interactions arent guaranteed, such as modified crop harvesting.
