About this Mod
ZstdMC: Multiplayer Network Optimization
ZstdMC is a performance-focused mod designed to optimize network bandwidth usage in multiplayer environments.
By replacing Minecraft's built-in compression and decompression modules with the Zstandard (zstd) library, this mod achieves significantly higher compression ratios, resulting in substantial data savings. In most scenarios, it provides these benefits with no negative impact on the game's stability or performance.
Key Features
Bandwidth Efficiency: Saves approximately 40% to 90% of network traffic in multiplayer mode.
Low Overhead: High-performance compression that minimizes CPU resource consumption.
Easy Setup: Simply drop the mod file into both the server and client mods folders.
Configuration Requirement
network-compression-threshold=128 (or higher)
Important Note on Versions

ZstdMC server crashes on startup – what to do?
Most common cause: wrong neoforge version or insufficient RAM. Check the server log (latest.log) for "OutOfMemoryError" or "Mixin" errors. With Mado Hosting: ensure at least 3 GB RAM is allocated and the loader matches the mod version (1.21.1). You can switch loaders with one click in the panel.
Is ZstdMC compatible with neoforge?
ZstdMC officially supports neoforge for Minecraft 1.21.1. The Mado dashboard automatically detects incompatible loader combinations.
Server lagging with ZstdMC – how to optimize performance?
Recommended RAM: 4 GB (per 8 players). Use /spark profiler to check if ZstdMC consumes the most tick time. Common fixes: reduce server view-distance to 8-10, install "performant" or "starlight" as supplementary mods on Forge. With Mado Hosting, your server runs on NVMe SSDs with dedicated CPU cores for minimal latency.
