Arctic Winter
Ballistic survival in a permafrost wasteland. Manage your heat, prime your rifle, and try not to stare into the blizzard for too long. Something might stare back.
About this Modpack
Arctic Winter | The White Silence
Welcome to Arctic Winter. This isn't just a standard snowy biome generation—it's a brutal, fast-paced survival pack where the environment is actively trying to kill you, and the blizzard hides things that are much worse than the cold.
Core Mechanics
- Temperature System: You need to constantly manage your body heat. If you don't build a proper shelter and stay near a fire, the freezing temperatures will kill you long before the sun even sets.
- Modern Firearms: You are equipped with modern weapons because standard swords and bows won't cut it here. In this wasteland, guns are your only real insurance policy against the things lurking in the snow.
- Stamina & Movement: Trudging through deep snow and climbing frozen terrain drains your stamina incredibly fast. You can't just sprint everywhere—every movement costs energy, and it recovers very slowly in the sub-zero air.
- Blizzards & Sound Physics: The extreme weather isn't just a visual filter. The howling wind and heavy whiteouts will completely mask your vision and hearing, making it dangerously easy for threats to sneak up right behind you.
The Anomaly
A quick heads-up: if you stare into the whiteout long enough, you might notice a silhouette just on the edge of your render distance. It doesn't always attack immediately. Sometimes, it just stands there, patiently watching your heat levels drop.
Performance
Despite the heavy weather effects, custom fog, and sound physics, the pack has been heavily optimized to ensure your game remains stable and smooth even during the worst blizzards.

Frequently Asked Questions
Arctic Winter server crashes or won't start – what to do?
Most common causes: insufficient RAM or wrong forge loader. Check latest.log for "OutOfMemoryError" → increase RAM to at least 8 GB. For "Mixin" or "ClassNotFoundException" errors: modpack version and loader don't match. With Mado Hosting, loader and Minecraft version are auto-configured on modpack install – preventing most startup issues.
How much RAM does a Arctic Winter server really need?
Minimum 6 GB, recommended 8 GB for stable performance. per 5 players. Important: Minecraft modpacks need more RAM than vanilla – plan extra per additional player. With Mado Hosting, you can scale RAM up live at any time without data loss (from €7.800000000000001/month).
Can I add custom mods to Arctic Winter without conflicts?
Yes, but check compatibility: only use mods for the same loader (forge) and same Minecraft version (1.20.1). Common issues: ID conflicts with recipe mods and incompatible coremod versions. The Mado dashboard mod browser only shows compatible mods and warns about known conflicts.
Arctic Winter server lagging – performance tips
1) Increase RAM to 8 GB+. 2) Reduce server view-distance to 8 (server.properties). 3) Pre-generate chunks with the "Chunky" plugin. 4) Use /spark profiler to check which mods consume the most tick time. With Mado Hosting, all servers run on NVMe SSDs with dedicated CPU cores – eliminating hardware as a bottleneck.
