About this Modpack

Spectral Seas Logo

Spectral Seas is a survival and exploration-focused modpack inspired by pirate movies, Age of Sail swashbuckling and my fevered imagination. Sail the world and unlock the mysteries of Spectrum to discover the secret beneath the bedrock.

The Situation

You met your Grandad but once, but his colorful garb, theatrical mannerisms, and wild tales of life on the open sea left a permanent impression. Father always spoke disdainfully of the old man, but this did nothing to dim your fascination. When dad passed on, he left you a modest inheritance and an exceedingly dull family business. It was no surprise when you sold off the enterprise and joined a merchant crew as a deckhand.

In retrospect, it should also have been no surprise when the ship was set upon by pirates and you were hurled overboard in shark-infested waters.

You very nearly drowned, and now you've washed ashore upon an unknown island, with nothing but a bundle of rations, your Grandad's nasty old cutlass, and a tattered book that a sailor thrust in your hand shortly after the ship left port.

It will be dark sooner than you know, and you're getting hungry. Hopefully some trace of Grandad's swashbuckling blood will keep you alive long enough to get out of here.

Features

A Perilous Beginning: Start with a meager stash of supplies and your trusty parrot, and scramble to survive on an unknown island.

A World of Islands: Custom terrain generation that creates a world of deep, endless oceans dotted with islands of various sizes.

Sail the Infinite Seas: Build and sail a ship around the world - and name it, decorate it, and upgrade it. Never lose track of it - because a marker is automatically placed on the map when you disembark.

The Life Aquatic: Varied ocean biomes teeming with sea life - from sharks to squids…to stranger things.

Scurrilous Pirates: Beware of pirate ships on the high seas - and their dangerous hideouts on the shores. Those who brave their hail of bullets may find their treasure worth the risk.

Mysteries and Magic : A carefully curated collection of customized structures to explore, and many clues and custom map integrations to lead you to them. And beneath that, a whole hidden world to discover.

Underworlds Unknown: Completely customized cave generation in the Overworld, and a Nether like you've never seen - a dark mirror of the Overworld with hellish islands floating in an endless sea of lava.

The Fine Print

The pack has finally had an official 1.0.0 release. It's alive!

As always, this release comes with my personal guarantee: if it breaks in half, you get to keep both halves.

Frequently Asked Questions

Spectral Seas server crashes or won't start – what to do?

Most common causes: insufficient RAM or wrong fabric loader. Check latest.log for "OutOfMemoryError" → increase RAM to at least 8 GB. For "Mixin" or "ClassNotFoundException" errors: modpack version and loader don't match. With Mado Hosting, loader and Minecraft version are auto-configured on modpack install – preventing most startup issues.

How much RAM does a Spectral Seas server really need?

Minimum 6 GB, recommended 8 GB for stable performance. per 5 players. Important: Minecraft modpacks need more RAM than vanilla – plan extra per additional player. With Mado Hosting, you can scale RAM up live at any time without data loss (from €7.800000000000001/month).

Can I add custom mods to Spectral Seas without conflicts?

Yes, but check compatibility: only use mods for the same loader (fabric) and same Minecraft version (1.20.1). Common issues: ID conflicts with recipe mods and incompatible coremod versions. The Mado dashboard mod browser only shows compatible mods and warns about known conflicts.

Spectral Seas server lagging – performance tips

1) Increase RAM to 8 GB+. 2) Reduce server view-distance to 8 (server.properties). 3) Pre-generate chunks with the "Chunky" plugin. 4) Use /spark profiler to check which mods consume the most tick time. With Mado Hosting, all servers run on NVMe SSDs with dedicated CPU cores – eliminating hardware as a bottleneck.
