About this Mod

About Species

Have you ever wanted more fictional, made-up mobs that fit well inside the base game? Species is a mod that does exactly that! Reda, Ninni, Noon, GLaDOS edition and Bornulhu have joined forces to come up and add all sorts of creatures and critters made with tender love and care.

Updates

Updates are going to have a specific theme tied to them, which could be anything! Look out for the next update and get early looks at the features in our DISCORD SERVER!

Features for Each Update

Every update adds one animal or plant designed by each of the team members above, fitting the update's theme. Of course there's not going to be only mobs! There's a lot of room for items and blocks based on the mob's function...

Modloader and Version

This mod is being developed for Fabric and Forge. No backports are planned.

Music Discs

Here's a link to listen to the Species OST on youtube, be sure to check out the original creators and support them, they did an amazing job!

To know more about these mobs, take a look at the images section or join our server, the wiki section has some info but there's still more to add!

Frequently Asked Questions

Species server crashes on startup – what to do?

Most common cause: wrong fabric version or insufficient RAM. Check the server log (latest.log) for "OutOfMemoryError" or "Mixin" errors. With Mado Hosting: ensure at least 3 GB RAM is allocated and the loader matches the mod version (1.20.1). You can switch loaders with one click in the panel.

Is Species compatible with fabric and forge and neoforge?

Species officially supports fabric, forge, neoforge for Minecraft 1.20.1, 1.20, 1.19.2. Note: Forge and Fabric mods are NOT cross-compatible – pick one loader and stick with it. The Mado dashboard automatically detects incompatible loader combinations.

Server lagging with Species – how to optimize performance?

Recommended RAM: 4 GB (per 8 players). Use /spark profiler to check if Species consumes the most tick time. Common fixes: reduce server view-distance to 8-10, install "performant" or "starlight" as supplementary mods on Forge. With Mado Hosting, your server runs on NVMe SSDs with dedicated CPU cores for minimal latency.
