Boat Racing made easy for the public
Welcome to Ice Boat Racing! This 99%-vanilla-compatible modpack aims to improve the base-game boat racing experience with mods such as BoatCam and Sodium, significantly optimizing the playability and competitiveness of this niche mode within Minecraft. It also supplies a short list of servers which aim to ease newer players into boat racing. The pack runs on most devices flawlessly, eliminating performance bottlenecks and increasing racing performance.
The core mods that enable this experience are:
- BoatCam: A mod focused on aiming your camera in the direction of your momentum, avoiding nausea and making the racing experience easier on the eyes. My personal settings are included and can be adjusted with Mod Menu.
- OpenBoatUtils: A mod that enables racing on surfaces with heavy friction, like Stone or Grass. This enables the use of custom physics!
- Bobby: A chunk-caching mod, aimed to lessen the probability of the server not supplying chunks fast enough to the fast-moving client. Bobby caches these chunks to disk, which eliminates the need to re-render chunks when you pass through a cached section of a track.
- BBBoatHud: A fully customizable recreation of the BoatHud mod that makes sure you can see your speed, lap time, and position in a race without overlapping interfaces!
The modpack also comes with the standard suite of performance-optimizing mods like Sodium, Lithium, and more.

Additionally, the Minecraft Ice Boat Racing Discord server is the main hangout for boat racers and has loads of information and content about racing. It also gives access to closed leagues. I highly recommend joining it; you can find it in the sidebar!
What should I know about the supplied server list?
The servers supplied with the pack are a couple of the most popular multiplayer servers within the Ice Boat Racing community. They are all equipped with the TimingSystem plugin by Makkuusen, which can measure lap times accurately to the millisecond (1ms), mark checkpoints, and makes pitstops possible.
You should familiarize yourself with a couple of commands to get yourself started as soon as possible:
- /tt: Displays all tracks present on the server, with your leaderboard position and how much time you spent on the track. You can also use /tt {trackName} to travel to a track quickly.
- /t times {trackName}: Parses you the time leaderboard for the selected track, which lets you see how far you're from that praised track record.
- /heat quit: Started a race on a server but really don't want to finish it? Perform this command and you'll be removed from the race, at which point you can once again freely run tracks.
BoatLabs
This server is dedicated to time attack records, with medals inspired by the likes of Trackmania and Redout. You can gain medals from Bronze to Gold, all the way up to Diamond. Do keep in mind that the highest medals require advanced techniques such as "blockstops" and "walltaps", which are a challenge of their own to learn and discover! It's the best optimized server on the list. Hosted in Europe.
FrostHex by ABG
Frosthex is your primary source for races accessible to the general public! Hosted in the US, the primary race type here is Formula (Craft) 1 and 2 races, based on known tracks from the F1 calendar. It also includes Rally tracks, enabled by the BoatUtils mod, which enables racing boats on land surfaces and gain the ability move the boat up and down blocks at high speeds. New tracks are added constantly and there are even weekly time attack battle tracks! Hosted on the US East Coast.

Frequently Asked Questions
Ice Boat Racing server crashes or won't start – what to do?
Most common causes: insufficient RAM or wrong quilt loader. Check latest.log for "OutOfMemoryError" → increase RAM to at least 6 GB. For "Mixin" or "ClassNotFoundException" errors: modpack version and loader don't match. With Mado Hosting, loader and Minecraft version are auto-configured on modpack install – preventing most startup issues.
How much RAM does a Ice Boat Racing server really need?
Minimum 4 GB, recommended 6 GB for stable performance. per 8 players. Important: Minecraft modpacks need more RAM than vanilla – plan extra per additional player. With Mado Hosting, you can scale RAM up live at any time without data loss (from €5.2/month).
Can I add custom mods to Ice Boat Racing without conflicts?
Yes, but check compatibility: only use mods for the same loader (quilt) and same Minecraft version (1.21.4). Common issues: ID conflicts with recipe mods and incompatible coremod versions. The Mado dashboard mod browser only shows compatible mods and warns about known conflicts.
Ice Boat Racing server lagging – performance tips
1) Increase RAM to 6 GB+. 2) Reduce server view-distance to 8 (server.properties). 3) Pre-generate chunks with the "Chunky" plugin. 4) Use /spark profiler to check which mods consume the most tick time. With Mado Hosting, all servers run on NVMe SSDs with dedicated CPU cores – eliminating hardware as a bottleneck.
