About this Mod

Due to personal reasons, this mod will stop receiving updates for the next two months. During this period, I will not be responding to any messages.

In ages past, countless adventurers sought a legendary weapon.

Yet as the ages passed, the sword was shattered, and the Queen who forged it vanished without a trace.

Now, scattered clues converge once more, pointing toward the End, as this forgotten tale awaits the adventurer who will continue it.

Though the road ahead be arduous, though the sword be shattered, embark on the journey and reforge it—The Last Sword You Never Forgot.

Note: This mod has been refactored in version 1.1.0. All content below applies only to version 1.1.0 and later. Downloading outdated versions is not recommended!

This is a remastered version of The Last Sword created with authorization from the original author queenofsquiggles. This version focuses on expanding the adventures and gameplay surrounding The Last Sword in modern Minecraft versions. The experience may therefore feel less "nostalgic." If you prefer a more classic The Last Sword experience, please visit another author's Fabric branch.

Visit the mod's official wiki for more details.

Parts of this mod draw inspiration from The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, Elden Ring, Fate/Grand Order, and other works.

Embark on a Journey to Reforge The Last Sword

The Last End Scroll Where It All Begins

On your first visit to a village, you find a blacksmith selling off family heirlooms. An ancient-looking scroll catches your eye. Reading it reveals another blacksmith's account of searching for The Last Sword. Follow the scroll's guidance and begin your own journey to reforge it.

Discovering the scroll

Traveler's Message Explore Lost Ruins

As you follow the scroll and uncover the story of The Last Sword, you will visit ruins scattered across different dimensions. Search them for clues and piece together a long-forgotten tale.

Exploring lost ruins

Dragon Cult Horn Face the Dragon Cult

These fanatical cultists stand in the way of your search for The Last Sword. When their horns sound around the village, prepare for a desperate battle. Take up your weapon and defend the villagers.

Facing the Dragon Cult

Dragon Crystal Ring Ancient Relics

During your travels, you can obtain accessories containing fragments of The Last Sword's power. Some seem to have negative effects, but combining them can yield greater strength. These ancient relics may also prove useful when you are ready to advance your Dragon Crystal equipment into more powerful Dragon equipment.

Ancient relics

Dragon Crystal Upgrade Template Forging and Upgrading

Craft a Dragon Crystal Upgrade Template and a Dragon Crystal Smithing Table to upgrade your Dragon Crystal equipment step by step. Higher levels bring better stats and allow equipment to evolve into new forms. Each breakthrough requires materials gathered on your journey. As you explore further, seemingly unrelated discoveries may become part of the reforging process.

Forging and upgrading

Ancient Energy Core Power, More Power!

You can obtain an Ancient Energy Core by trading with a Wandering Trader or exploring ruins in the End. Crafted long ago by beings of The Last End living beneath the void, these cores help you upgrade Dragon Crystal Armor into Dragon Armor. Once you obtain this advanced armor, it may seem less powerful than you expected—you need to charge it with FE energy to unlock its full potential.

While you wear Dragon Armor, nearby End Crystals will treat you as a friendly Ender Dragon and charge your equipment! If their charging rate is not enough, you can also use a Disposable Energy Battery. These batteries are obtained in the same ways as Ancient Energy Cores.

You can also craft a Dragon Crystal Enchanting Table to generate power. Despite its name, it doubles as a generator, using Dragon Crystal as its default fuel. Place fuel in the red slot on the left to generate energy, then put equipment that needs charging into the green slot on the right. Equipment that uses standard FE energy is supported.

Dragon Soul Lantern Summon Sword Wraiths

You do not have to adventure alone. Through Sword Wraith Summoning, former enemies can become allies who fight at your side. Craft a Dragon Crystal Soul Stone and a Dragon Soul Lantern. Activate the lantern by wearing it as an accessory or placing it on Obsidian or Crying Obsidian, and keep an empty Dragon Crystal Soul Stone in your inventory. Slay an entity to bind its soul to the stone and turn it into your Sword Wraith.

Use the Dragon Soul Lantern or another item with Sword Wraith Summoning Mode to summon the corresponding Sword Wraith. Its strength increases according to the level of the item used to summon it. Sword Wraiths generally do not harm one another, although some mods' attack implementations may cause friendly fire against companions or the owner.

Press the Open Sword Wraith Summoning Screen key (default: Z) to open the Sword Wraith Summoning screen and place a Dragon Crystal Soul Stone in its dedicated slot. The stone in that slot becomes your active soul stone, allowing Sword Wraith Summoning Mode to call its Sword Wraith without requiring you to hold the stone.

If you believe yourself strong enough, travel to the Sealed Spire in the End and free a knight who has long been imprisoned. After granting the knight peace, you will be able to summon a powerful and loyal ally—The-Last-End Sword Wraith—to clear obstacles on your path to reforging The Last Sword. Of course, this knight is not invincible.

The-Last-End Sword Wraith

Dragon Crystal Crown A Sovereign Awaits—Bear Witness

Once the truth is revealed, every clue points to the Wound of Time in the End. It is time to travel there and obtain the final piece needed to reforge The Last Sword. In a garden floating above the void sleeps the Queen who once forged it. Though she is now only a shadow of her former self, you can still feel the power of the sword's former wielder. Prepare thoroughly and face her trial.

Warning: This is an OP boss and a difficult challenge.

Lore and Mechanics

Beings of The Last End

A new entity type introduced by this mod, said to originate from beneath the void of the End. These beings have different levels, and higher levels grant greater strength.

Level Offensive Abilities Defensive Abilities
1–5 No additional effects. Custom health and basic resistance to entity removal. Ordinary damage from a single hit is reduced to the damage cap if it exceeds that cap.
6–12 Attacks deal additional Absolute Destruction damage equal to level × 1% of the original damage. Custom health and basic resistance to entity removal. Ordinary damage from a single hit is completely negated if it exceeds the damage cap.
13 and above Attacks deal additional Absolute Destruction damage equal to level × 1% of the original damage. Custom health and basic resistance to entity removal. Ordinary damage from a single hit is completely negated if it exceeds the damage cap. They also revive upon death if their custom health has not been depleted.

The damage cap depends on the entity and configuration. Absolute Destruction damage is resolved separately and is not subject to the ordinary damage caps listed above.

Dangerous Skills

Some beings of The Last End have dangerous skills that pose a particular threat to players. Before one is unleashed, a warning sound plays and a red area indicator shows the skill's affected region.

Absolute Destruction Damage

A form of true damage that bypasses armor and conventional damage reduction, as well as the damage caps of beings of The Last End. In addition to reducing health, it reduces the target's Present World Anchor by a certain proportion. Players can deal this damage, but it also appears in some enemies' attacks and skills.

Present World Anchor

Every living entity has this value independently of its current health, initially equal to its maximum health. Absolute Destruction damage reduces Present World Anchor; when it is depleted, the target is executed immediately.

Survivors of Absolute Destruction damage enter World Severance for a period of time, during which their health cannot exceed their remaining Present World Anchor. When World Severance ends, the health limit is removed, and subsequent healing can also restore lost Present World Anchor.

Justified Defence

A shield that blocks damage by consuming charges. Each point negates one instance of damage, regardless of its amount, including Absolute Destruction damage. When the holder dies, at least 2 remaining points allow the shield to consume 2 points, prevent death, and restore the holder to maximum health. Entities with a Justified Defence capacity gradually recover shield points according to their Justified Defence Recovery Speed attribute, up to that capacity.

Levels

Some items in this mod have levels ranging from 0 to 13. For most of these items, the level directly affects their stats. You can upgrade your items at the Dragon Crystal Smithing Table.

Modes

Some items in this mod have multiple modes. Press the mode switch key (default: Left Ctrl) to cycle through them.

Miscellaneous

A New Look for an Old Legend

This mod gives The Last Sword completely revamped textures! If you prefer a nostalgic look, enable the built-in "The Last Sword Classical Texture Pack" to use the original textures from version 1.7.10.

JSON Customization

This mod provides several JSON-driven customization features for modpack authors. You can adjust Dragon Crystal Smithing recipes, specify equipment that serves as a Dragon Cult disguise, or add fuels for the Dragon Crystal Enchanting Table.

Dragon Crystal Smithing Table Custom Dragon Crystal Smithing Recipes

Create a .json file under config/the_last_sword/dragon_crystal_smithing_recipes/ in the game directory to add a recipe. Subfolders are supported for organization; in multiplayer, only the server needs this configuration. The following example, custom_sword_upgrade.json, uses a Level 0 Dragon Crystal Upgrade Template, a Level 0 Dragon Crystal Sword, and a Diamond to produce a Level 1 Dragon Crystal Sword:

{
  "type": "the_last_sword:dragon_crystal_smithing",
  "template": {
    "item": "the_last_sword:dragon_crystal_upgrade_template",
    "inputLevel": 0
  },
  "input": {
    "item": "the_last_sword:dragon_crystal_sword",
    "inputLevel": 0
  },
  "addition": {
    "item": "minecraft:diamond"
  },
  "output": {
    "item": "the_last_sword:dragon_crystal_sword",
    "outputLevel": 1
  }
}

template, input, and addition correspond to the three input slots, while output defines the result. The two inputLevel fields check the levels of the template and base item respectively, and outputLevel sets the resulting item's level. Replace the item IDs and levels as needed.

Official recipes are stored under data/the_last_sword/dragon_crystal_smithing_recipes/ inside the mod JAR. To change an official recipe, copy it into the config recipe directory and edit it while keeping its original file name. A config file with the same name overrides the official recipe. Use a different file name when adding a new recipe.

Rename a recipe file to end in .disabled.json, .json.disabled, or .json.disable to disable it. A disabled file with a matching name also disables the corresponding official recipe. After making changes, run /reload or restart the server to reload recipes and synchronize them with players.

Dragon Crystal Enchanting Table Add Disguise Equipment and Fuels with a Data Pack

Both features below use item tags in a data pack. Create a the_last_sword_custom folder inside the target world's datapacks/ directory, then create a pack.mcmeta file inside it:

{
  "pack": {
    "pack_format": 15,
    "description": "The Last Sword custom Dragon Cult disguise equipment and fuels"
  }
}

Create the tag files at the paths shown below. This is the full directory structure; you may include either tag on its own:

the_last_sword_custom/
├── pack.mcmeta
└── data/
    └── the_last_sword/
        └── tags/
            └── items/
                ├── dragon_cult_disguise.json
                └── dragon_crystal_enchanting_table_fuel.json

Dragon Cult Disguise

In data/the_last_sword/tags/items/dragon_cult_disguise.json, list equipment that can be used to disguise the wearer as a member of the Dragon Cult. For example, this adds the full set of Leather Armor:

{
  "replace": false,
  "values": [
    "minecraft:leather_helmet",
    "minecraft:leather_chestplate",
    "minecraft:leather_leggings",
    "minecraft:leather_boots"
  ]
}

The disguise only works when all four armor slots—helmet, chestplate, leggings, and boots—contain equipment from the tag. The Dragon Cult will then refrain from selecting the wearer as a player target for its proactive attacks. Equipment in the tag can be mixed and matched, and item IDs from other mods are supported.

Dragon Crystal Enchanting Table Fuel

In data/the_last_sword/tags/items/dragon_crystal_enchanting_table_fuel.json, list items that can be used to generate power. For example, this allows Coal and Charcoal to be used as fuel:

{
  "replace": false,
  "values": [
    "minecraft:coal",
    "minecraft:charcoal"
  ]
}

Items in this tag can be placed in the Dragon Crystal Enchanting Table's fuel slot and consumed to generate power. All fuels use the same common configuration for generation duration and rate; the tag does not define an energy value for each fuel.

In these examples, replace: false preserves the existing tag contents and adds the new items. Changing it to true lets the data pack replace the mod's original tag contents. After saving, run /reload in the target world and use /datapack list enabled to confirm that the data pack is enabled.

Stronger Ender Dragons and Random Names

When you participate in slaying the Ender Dragon in the End, you receive extra Dragon Eggs, even if you have defeated it before. Each time it is reborn, however, it returns stronger: its health, armor, and attack damage increase with each challenge. It also gains a name with unique abilities and displays its level. The possible random names are:

  • Akatosh, the Dragon God of Time: Maximum health, attack damage, armor, and armor toughness increase by 100%. Gains 2 temporary Justified Defence points. Has a 10% chance to cancel an incoming attack. Every 30 seconds, makes a recovery check with a 1% chance to restore health to maximum. A successful recovery starts a 60-second cooldown, with the next check occurring when that cooldown ends.

  • Dragonlord Placidusax: Maximum health, attack damage, armor, and armor toughness increase by 100%. Has a 1% chance to cancel an incoming attack. Reaching or falling below 50%, 25%, and 5% of maximum health triggers 6 seconds of Phasing and a thunderstorm at each threshold. During the thunderstorm, lightning strikes one randomly selected attackable living entity within a 64-block radius every second. Each threshold triggers only once; crossing several thresholds in a single hit does not stack the duration.

  • Alduin, the World-Eater: Maximum health, attack damage, armor, and armor toughness increase by 100%. Gains 2 temporary Justified Defence points. Calls down a volley of 16 fireballs every 30 seconds, prioritizing areas occupied by attackable living entities within a 64-block radius. Each kill of another living entity grants one stack of +100% attack damage, up to 1,000 stacks. The bonuses add linearly; each kill does not double the current attack damage.

  • Paarthurnax: Maximum health, attack damage, armor, and armor toughness increase by 50%. The flying speed attribute increases by 50%.

  • Odahviing: Calls down a volley of 16 fireballs every 60 seconds, prioritizing areas occupied by attackable living entities within a 64-block radius.

  • Durnehviir: Applies Weakness V and Poison V to other living entities within a 16-block radius every second. Each application lasts 3 seconds, so the effects keep refreshing while the target stays in range.

  • Bayle the Dread: Maximum health decreases by 50%, and attack damage increases by 300%. Contact attacks set the target on fire for 60 seconds.

  • Elder Dragon Greyoll: Maximum health increases by 300%. Attack damage, armor, armor toughness, and the flying speed attribute decrease by 50%.

The 2 Justified Defence points granted to Akatosh and Alduin are temporary: they do not raise the shield's capacity or recover automatically. If base armor toughness is 0, a name bonus of +100% instead grants 4 armor toughness, +50% grants 2, and −50% leaves it at 0.

Dragon Cult Priests also receive a random name when they spawn:

  • Hevnoraak: Immune to negative effects and removes any negative effects on itself once per second.

  • Krosis: When damaged, has a 30% chance to gain Invisibility for 3 seconds.

  • Morokei: Lightning, dragon breath, and ward skill cooldowns are reduced by 50%.

  • Nahkriin: Lightning and dragon breath skill damage increases by 50%.

  • Otar: Incoming damage is reduced by 30%.

  • Rahgot: Immune to ordinary knockback.

  • Vokun: Each skill cast has a 10% chance to summon a Dragon Cultist.

  • Volsung: Attracts nearby Villagers and Wandering Traders once every 0.5 seconds, drawing them toward itself. The search area is its bounding box expanded by 8 blocks in every direction.

  • Konahrik: Casting its ward skill has a 10% chance to restore health equal to 50% of its maximum health, without exceeding maximum health. Every second, it produces dragon breath around itself, dealing dragon breath damage to attackable living entities in a 3×3×3-block area centered on its body. Each skill cast also has a 1% chance to summon a Dragon Cult Priest.

  • Miraak: Maximum health, attack damage, armor, and armor toughness increase by 100%; if base armor toughness is 0, it gains 4 armor toughness instead. When attacked by a living entity or when one of its skills successfully damages a living entity, it has a 1% chance to attempt to control that entity. Tamable animals and horses become its servants. Players instead receive Slowness III, Weakness III, and Nausea III for 10 seconds. Other types of living entities do not become servants.
