❓ WHAT IS THIS MODPACK SUPPOSED TO BE AND WHY NOT JUST PLAY BETA VERSIONS ❓

Beta Continued aims to recreate the nostalgia of earlier versions, while also integrating and balancing modern and modded content. This project has come a long way, originating from a problem I had quite a while ago.

Something I am only assuming is a problem that many people like myself have ran into before: modding Beta versions of the game can be really frustrating frustrating. When it came to modding in multiplayer support for your favorite mods, it required reversing someone elses old code and completely redesigning it to function in a server environment (and more nonsense). What a nightmare! What if a modern modloader environment with an identical Minecraft beta experience existed? I present to you this confusing idea of a project. Now modding "Minecraft Beta" and getting that classic experience with friends using your favorite mods has never been easier!

While customizing and designing the themes for the modpack I had a handful of particular goals in mind, but the main one was: Minecraft is no longer what is was... so everything that is added should be what it used to feel like. I hope that makes sense? I did my best to create an enviornment that feels like we are playing modded Minecraft Beta 1.7.3, that is the version I accuracy matched everything to. The mods added are content that remind me of the beta experience the most, and there will be more to come as I work on this modpack in the future.

Since the official release of Minecraft, Mojang has continuously introduced a variety of changes and low effort content that seem to cater more to the constantly shifting public interest & attention spam. These decisions stray far from the original vision that Notch had planned. Notches personal involvement with the game quickly diminished since release due to personal problems and issues with the companies direction, until he eventually left Mojang studios and sold the company to Microsoft. What was once a passion project soon turned into a corporate asset leaving us with what we have today. This modpack also exists as an attempt to continue the legacy of Notch's vision for Minecraft. In my opinion, Minecraft Beta 1.7.3 represents the last true update that matched Notch's original vision for the game. It was the final release that maintained the direction & spirit of his initial creation.

It's a block game; A LEGO type game if you will. It’s not supposed to be complicated. The extent of the game should be driven by your imagination, not by any amount of new content and changes.

📡 SERVER INSTALLATION 📡

Installing the modpack on a server is very simple.

  1. Put the config, kubejs, and mods folder into your server's root directory.

  2. Delete the following mods from the server:

    • Embeddium
    • NoEmbeddiumMenu
    • EntityTextureFeatures
    • EntityModelFeatures
    • Controllable
    • HideKeyBinds
    • ChatBoost
  3. Go into server.properties and set level-type to "moderner_beta:moderner_beta". The end result should be: level-type=moderner_beta:moderner_beta

Thats all! The server should load as intended now. If you have any further questions please do not hesitate to join the Discord server for help or further information about the modpack.

(Do not delete from the client, only the server. These mods call client side only functions and cause the server to crash as a result. Embeddium if not removed from the server will cause RoughlyEnoughItems / the items menu to not display display the item registry properly for connected players. In some cases, having RoughlyEnoughItems present on the server can also caused this glitched behaviour. This is a known issue with RoughlyEnoughItems for Minecraft 1.20.1 Forge)

(Please see the official Simple Voice Chat instructions on how to get the voice chat system working properly on your server.)

🧾 CONTENT STAEMENTS 🧾

  • Yes, I do now that Babric exists, go check it out! It is an awesome project! This modpack is designed to be a pre-configured experience using modern mods and framework, but I highly encourage you to mess around with the design of your own REAL beta modpack using their awesome project!
  • Beta 1.7.4 does not completely revert the game to beta, but is rather a simulation that attempts to get as close to what a modded beta environment could have looked and felt like. Each beta like modpack has its own theme, while building off of the concept of making the game feel like beta. This modpack is simply my twist on a beta themed modpack. Beta 1.7.4 does not claim or will never claim to be an official continuation / update of the original Minecraft beta versions. All claim belongs to their respective owners.

Frequently Asked Questions

Beta Continued server crashes or won't start – what to do?

Most common causes: insufficient RAM or wrong forge loader. Check latest.log for "OutOfMemoryError" → increase RAM to at least 8 GB. For "Mixin" or "ClassNotFoundException" errors: modpack version and loader don't match. With Mado Hosting, loader and Minecraft version are auto-configured on modpack install – preventing most startup issues.

How much RAM does a Beta Continued server really need?

Minimum 6 GB, recommended 8 GB for stable performance. per 5 players. Important: Minecraft modpacks need more RAM than vanilla – plan extra per additional player. With Mado Hosting, you can scale RAM up live at any time without data loss (from €7.800000000000001/month).

Can I add custom mods to Beta Continued without conflicts?

Yes, but check compatibility: only use mods for the same loader (forge) and same Minecraft version (1.20.1). Common issues: ID conflicts with recipe mods and incompatible coremod versions. The Mado dashboard mod browser only shows compatible mods and warns about known conflicts.

Beta Continued server lagging – performance tips

1) Increase RAM to 8 GB+. 2) Reduce server view-distance to 8 (server.properties). 3) Pre-generate chunks with the "Chunky" plugin. 4) Use /spark profiler to check which mods consume the most tick time. With Mado Hosting, all servers run on NVMe SSDs with dedicated CPU cores – eliminating hardware as a bottleneck.
