Paper server hosting: plugins and management

Paper is Minecraft Java server software for Bukkit/Spigot plugins. Choose Paper for a community with plugins; Forge and Fabric mods need their respective loaders.

When should you choose Paper?

Paper suits permissions, build protection and other server-side plugins. Players join using a compatible Minecraft Java client. Check the Minecraft version and each plugin’s supported server platform first. A Forge modpack cannot be installed by copying it into the plugins folder.

Setup and first start

Configure a Minecraft Java server and select Paper during server creation. Start it once and inspect the console. Stop it before changes, upload compatible plugins to the plugins folder or use your plan’s browser. Restart and inspect each plugin’s startup messages. Back up before updates and avoid changing every component at once.

RAM, Java and performance

Requirements depend on the world, players, plugins and view distance. Our RAM selection is guidance, not a benchmark or a guaranteed player count. Use the official table to check the Java version required by your Paper release. Investigate tick times and plugin load before increasing RAM; more memory does not fix a blocking plugin.

Check before ordering, then set up safely

  1. Choose Paper for a Java server with Bukkit/Spigot plugins. Forge and Fabric modpacks need their matching mod loader instead of Paper.
  2. Back up your world before changing server software. Check each plugin’s supported Minecraft and Paper versions, and initially install only the plugins you need.
  3. Start the server and check the console, joining and permissions. For slow ticks, inspect a profile and the active world first; extra memory does not replace that diagnosis.

The 4 GB offer below is a configuration example. World size, view distance, plugins and mods determine actual requirements. Select the software in the dashboard after provisioning and check the first startup.
